Goodbye movie review

This Friday is not full of big-budget releases as the majority of the big films were released on Dusshera. Goodbye is probably the only movie to be released this weekend that features a popular star cast. However, the audience may not be pleased with what they are going to watch. Goodbye is definitely not the film you would like to watch if you want to lift your mood. Here's our Goodbye review for you.

Goodbye Review

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan & Rashmika Mandanna

Director: Vikas Bahl

Goodbye Review: Story

The loss of a family member brings people together to rediscover a connection they seemed to have lost. The story of Vikas Bahl is admirable and relatable. A lot of the events and moments will be relatable to most of us. The screenplay by Vikas Bahl, however, lacks sufficient detail. The writing falters in the second half after a brilliant first half. Witty banter also helps to rescue some scenarios.

Goodbye Review: Direction

The direction of Vikas Bahl is ordinary. As 'Goodbye' is also a slice-of-life movie about a character who learns great life lessons after going through a terrible situation, this is more in the vein of his critically acclaimed film Queen (2013). The first half will make spectators cry. The humor is skillfully woven into the story and doesn't feel out of place. The songs by P P Singh (Ashish Vidyarthi) and the local aunties are humorous.

They are incredibly relevant because we have all encountered folks like this at funerals. Sweet and expertly handled is the sequence in which the family members pretend that Gayatri is speaking to them. It's also fun to listen to the Haridwar track in the second half with Pandit Ji (Sunil Grover). Things start to happen at random after this. Some elements feel contrived. From this point on, the movie truly starts to deteriorate.

Goodbye Review: Performances

Amitabh Bachchan gives his all as always and puts up a spectacular show. His portrayal of the anguish and rage he feels about the circumstances is exquisite. Rashmika Mandanna exudes a strong presence on screen. The actress does a good job in her first Hindi film, despite a few awkward moments in her acting. Neena Gupta is a sweetheart. Sunil Grover makes a brief appearance but is hilarious. Sahil Mehta and Pavail Gulati are respectable. Too talented is Ashish Vidyarthi. Daisy (Elli AvrRam) is fair. There is no scope for Shivan Narang. The performers portraying Nakul, the maid, and the neighborhood aunties do a good job.

Conclusion

Overall, Goodbye barely succeeds because to the performances, relatability element, and emotional moments. The strange developments, lackluster second half, and depressing tone, however, make the movie suffer. It will turn out to be an ordinary fare at the box office.

Final Rating- 2.5/5
