The Matrix Resurrections, which will be released later this week in India and on HBO Max, resurrects the popular Matrix franchise nearly two decades after it ended. The new Matrix film was announced in 2019 and was set to be released in May 2021. However, the film, like many other highly anticipated TV shows (such as Netflix's The Witcher season 2) or movies (such as Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), was delayed by a few months due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Matrix Resurrections cast, story, release date, budget, review, direction & more details have been given below.
Some of the original Matrix cast members will appear in the new film, including Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith. Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff have joined the cast of The Matrix Resurrections, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas is also in the film.
Lana Wachowski directed the film without her sister Lily, so there is no Wachowski sister duo this time.
The latter is currently working on Showtime's Work in Progress and reportedly isn't interested in returning to the Matrix franchise. The Matrix Resurrections appears to be a highly interesting film, with authors Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell on board as co-writers.
Nothing much has been revealed about the budget of the film, however, some loose reports have revealed that the production cost could be as high as $150 Million
The Matrix Resurrections will be released on December 22nd and will be available in theatres throughout India. The film will be released in the country on the same day as it will be released internationally. The Matrix Resurrections will be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, in addition to English.
